Welcome to Computer Applications
You are considered a "digital native." (See video Below) This simply means that you have grown up with technology and that it is and will be a big part of your life. There is much more to technology than playing video games, texting on the phone, or surfing the Internet. Technology brings with it wonderful opportunities to educate the world, communicate with others more effectively, and improve our quality of life.
This class is designed to teach you some of the basic applications of the computer. Understanding these basic applications will give you a foundation needed to excel in high school, college, and even your career. You will mainly be learning how to use various applications contained in Microsoft Office 2010, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. You will also use the Internet to research, find data, and use many of the web 2.0 tools that have been created to make learning fun and exciting. You will create things like Certificates, Invitations, newsletters, graphs, reports, & presentations. Throughout the course, an emphasis will be placed on digital citizenship, and you will be expected to use technology safely and appropriately.
If you successfully complete computer applications, you will then be able to take other computer electives, including computer applications II, Graphic Arts, & Web Design.
